Matt’s take on:
Finding focus in finance.
Matt’s first financing job was as a teller at Numerica Credit Union. He ultimately found his way to accounting, where his skills truly align.
He recognizes that not everybody finds accounting particularly exciting. It’s like folding laundry or washing dishes, he says — a bit repetitive, maybe, but also helps him focus.
Matt says.
“My personality really fits the work. I’m very analytical, and it’s consistent, it’s reliable. There’s a rhythm to it. Once you’re in it, you can just kind of ride the groove.”
Being a tuba guy.
Speaking of grooves, Matt is a big music fan and points to Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and the Meters as some of his favorite artists. He’s also a self-proclaimed former band geek, having been a marching band drum major and a member of the concert and jazz bands at Spokane Falls Community College.
Matt’s mom worked as a music teacher and encouraged him to pick up the tuba at a young age. “Some people are into star signs. She was like, ‘You’re a tuba guy,’” Matt explains. “I don’t play regularly anymore, but I still feel like it’s part of my identity.”
What is up with Matt’s excellent quotes.
Community ties.
Matt lives in Oxford, Ohio, where he lives with his partner and their border collie-black lab mix, Gigi. But he has a strong connection to his hometown of Spokane and takes advantage of the region’s hiking trails every time he’s back to visit one of DH’s offices.
He stays connected to community wherever he goes, seeking out volunteer opportunities and other ways to give back.
“I love working at DH,” Matt says. “It allows me to feel a connection to my hometown and my community that I really care about.”
