This year took a rather unexpected turn – bringing life as we know it to a halt and creating a new normal for communities across our state. We at DH, along with a local coalition of our Spokane government, businesses and media partners,  teamed up with area school districts to celebrate our high school graduating class of 2020 in this unprecedented time. With the heartache of an abnormal close to the school year – no senior prom, spring sports and graduation ceremony – we wanted to shine a light on the senior class to let them know that Spokane is proud of them.

There were a variety of efforts that took place that highlighted our region’s class of 2020. Our coalition donated time and effort to ensure that graduates were still celebrated in a big way – by installing various billboards, banners and art installations across Spokane County.  Each piece of artwork was completed with a logo and color scheme donated by the Great PNW. For more information about the activities that took place, visit spokane2020.com

Our goal as a coalition was to get county-wide support for the Class of 2020 campaign. We encouraged local businesses to participate in a few different ways:

Visuals: We encouraged local businesses to use their reader boards and windows to share congratulatory messages for the class of 2020.

Senior Specials: Businesses could choose to provide discounts or special offers to the class of 2020.

School-specific donations: Some businesses supported the seniors at particular school in their areas with a donation to the school. Some also supported specific senior classes by donating the funds necessary to buy Spokane Class of 2020 t-shirts for each senior.

Underwriting: There were many activities in need of financial support. Businesses were offered the opportunity to underwrite the cost in part or full for any activity.

Listen to messages of advice and congratulations from local celebrities.

Grads were given the option to purchase a limited edition “Grads give back” Spokane class of 2020 t-shirt, designed by The Great PNW.

Selfie destinations were set up at Comstock Park and North Pines Middle School with vinyl weaving so you could strike a pose with the Class of 2020 backdrop.

Class of 2020 artwork was installed across town, including signal boxes in Riverfront Park and Franklin Park. The signal boxes included local high schools.

The Class of 2020 logo was everywhere in downtown Spokane.

Billboards with congratulatory messages are up all around Spokane.

To seniors across Spokane County…. from Cheney to Liberty Lake, Spokane Valley to Riverside and Reardan to Freeman, we hope this campaign made one thing clear – your city is proud of you!
