Christina Rocks

When it comes to strategic communications and problem solving, Christina knows how to approach an issue from any given angle. She brings to DH over a decade of experience building systems and launching campaigns in various sectors, which means her communications toolkit is well-stocked — whether that involves writing press releases, crafting op-eds, or helping companies navigate change and manage crises.

Christina’s take on:

Helping clients tell their stories.

Before joining DH, Christina was the Washington State Department of Health’s community engagement manager, working on strategic communications that helped shape public health policy. She also served as a major gifts officer for the University of Washington, securing funding for scholarships and other campus initiatives that improved student life. That background, along with her work with various regional nonprofits, made her a perfect fit for DH’s mission-oriented work.

“One of my goals in working within the private sector is to collaborate with companies and organizations whose values are not only good for business but for their customer bases,” Christina says.

Now she deals directly with a wide variety of clients, helping them craft narratives and shape messaging that will resonate with their audiences.

“When telling those stories, you need to figure out who you’re trying to reach and what they’re most going to care about,” Christina says. “Helping clients set the expectation about what is actually compelling and what needs to be addressed is important.”

Christina says:

“I really like solving complex problems, and working toward a North Star of social change. The more on-the-ground you can be with the communities you want to serve, the better. True partnership comes when you bring the best of your expertise as well as a sense of humility, and when you’re receptive to other points of view.”

A passion for purpose.

Many of Christina’s DH clients are working to make the world a better place, and that dedication to equity extends to her life outside the firm. She’s a supporter of various social causes, including organizations focused on LGBTQIA+ equality and reproductive justice, and she has volunteered for nonprofits helping unhoused neighbors and fighting for equitable access to voting, education and health care.

When she needs to unwind, Christina tends to escape into the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest, and you can often find her hosting a dinner and cocktail party for her friends.
